The Ultimate Guide to Parking in Rexburg

Let's face it—parking in Rexburg can be a challenge. Between BYU-Idaho's color-coded lots, city parking rules, and limited space, finding the right spot can feel like a game of chess. Whether you're looking for a parking spot on campus or off, this guide will help you navigate all things parking in Rexburg. Let's dive in!

BYU-Idaho Parking

Parking at BYU-Idaho can appear confusing for those not used to parking signs and color-coded parking lots, but don't worry, we'll decode the colors and give you some bonus info too.

How Much Does a BYU-I Parking Pass Cost?

How much does a BYU-Idaho parking pass cost? Well, it depends. BYU-Idaho has eight different parking passes that are differentiated by color.

Four are unavailable to the average student: red (adult employee parking), orange (4th Ward parking), white (University Village parking), and light green (Center Square parking).

The other five parking passes are available to students, but it's important to know what you want before purchasing one. A good tip is to look at your class schedule. Are most of your classes on the north side of campus? Then, a light blue north parking pass is your best bet. If most of your classes are on the south side, then you should go with the yellow south side parking pass. These two permits are the most popular among students. They are $60 per semester.

The other two options include the brown economy parking pass, which includes two parking lots at the south end of campus. This parking pass is $20. The final parking pass is considered long-term parking; it's purple, and it's $80 per semester.

How to Get a BYU-Idaho Parking Pass

The process is simple. Log in to your BYU-Idaho account, select "Student Express," and select "Request Parking Permit" under Parking Express. You will need to enter your I-number, your vehicle's information, and payment to receive a parking permit.

Your parking permit will be available for pickup a couple of days before the start of the semester. You'll pick it up in the same place you pick up university-reserved books—next to the Bowling Alley in the Manwaring Center (MC).

What Happens if I Don't Park in the Right Spot?

If you park in the wrong spot, you will receive a ticket or citation on your window or windshield. If you feel the citation was given in error, you can appeal it within 14 days of receiving the citation. To pay your ticket, simply go to your BYU-Idaho account. The ticket and its amount will appear on your record.

BYU-I Parking Rules to Follow

Here are some other parking rules to keep in mind at BYU-Idaho:

  • Only one parking permit per student is allowed.

  • Overnight parking on campus from 1 to 4 AM is not permitted, even with a pass.

  • Permit parking is not enforced before 7 AM and after 4 PM on weekdays.

  • Permit parking isn't required or enforced on holidays, weekends, semester breaks, and during the summer session.

  • When parking on campus, your permit must be visible through your vehicle's windshield.

Rexburg City Parking

Strict parking rules aren't just a BYU-Idaho thing; they're also a Rexburg thing. With so many students and so little space, the rules keep things safe and fair.

How Much Does a Rexburg City Parking Pass Cost?

Just like with campus parking permits, the city's passes vary by type. Luckily, there are only three Rexburg parking passes, and only one applies to students: the University pass.

The University pass can be purchased on a yearly basis or for a single semester. For a year of parking, it's $200. For one semester, it is $80. This pass covers most roads on the outside of the university.

How to Get a City Parking Pass

These passes are available only a month before the start of a new semester. To get a U-pass, you will fill out a ticket through the Rexburg city website. Once you have entered your information and paid for your permit, you can pick it up at the Rexburg Police Office.

What Happens if I Don't Park in the Right Spot?

If you accidentally park in the wrong spot, you will be ticketed.

More Rexburg Parking Rules

While we've covered all the basics, here are a few more things to be aware of when using a U-parking pass:

  • Your permit must be visible at all times.

  • The permit is required Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.

  • Overnight parking is not allowed from December 15th to March 1st.

Cedars Parking

While parking close to campus to get to your classes on time is essential, so is parking close to home. At Cedars, we offer one of the only covered parking garages in Rexburg. With our notoriously snowy winters, our parking amenity is definitely something you'll want during your college stay. Spots fill up quickly, so be sure to either reserve your pass when you sign up for housing or reach out to our office manager to reserve your spot!

Parking in Rexburg doesn't have to be a headache, as long as you know the rules and plan ahead. Whether you're navigating the color-coded lots at BYU-Idaho, applying for a city permit, or trying to snag a covered spot at Cedars, being informed is your best strategy. Remember to pay attention to signage, keep your permit visible, and avoid overnight parking where it's restricted.
